Nell’s Point scheme receives vote of confidence
08 November 2015
The Vale of Glamorgan Council’s decision to invite detailed proposals and a planning application for a substantial hotel and resort development at Barry Island’s Nell’s Point has been endorsed by the authority’s Economy and Environment scrutiny committee.
The outcome of a marketing exercise conducted earlier this year which saw the proposals put forward by a private developer were discussed extensively at the December meeting of the committee.
The exercise saw the Council seek expressions of interest for tourism and leisure developments at the site of the former Butlin’s holiday camp at Barry Island. The committee members unanimously supported the marketing process and welcomed the positive steps being taken to attract a large, high quality investment.
A "preferred bidder" for the Nell's Point site, currently used as a temporary car park, and the adjacent grade II listed toilet block was appointed in November. Negotiations are now underway on proposals for a hotel, leisure facilities and the re-use of the toilet block.
