Volunteers give Porthkerry a seasonal trim

29 December 2015

The team of volunteers that help maintain Porthkerry Country Park have given the site its final pruning of 2015.

After a morning of cutting, lopping and burning last week the ‘practical conservation’ volunteers sat down for a hard earned Christmas lunch. The group who help keep much of the park’s greenery healthy were joined in their festive celebrations by some of the other groups who help make the park such a popular attraction. Also in attendance were the Porthkerry Wildlife Group who help monitor and survey the wildlife of the park and the gardening volunteers who are helping create a wildlife friendly garden around Nightingale Cottage.

Speaking at the celebration Mel Stewart, Site Ranger at Porthkerry Country Park, said: “We are so lucky to have a fantastic group of volunteers who help make a huge difference to the park. Having everyone together highlights just how many people give up their own time to maintain a site that is enjoyed by so many. We really appreciate their help and hard work and it’s great to be able to thank them with a little celebration – even if the sausage rolls were a bit burnt!”
