Call for residents to host vulnerable adults
Published 6 February 2015
The Vale of Glamorgan Council is calling on residents to help support the Adult Placement Service by becoming hosts and opening their homes to adults with learning and other disabilities for short breaks and on a long term basis.
Hosts undergo comprehensive assessment checks and an induction training programme, and are then paid a tax free allowance for support and mileage depending on the needs of the service user.
Applicants need to be living in the Vale of Glamorgan, have a spare room, and be available to provide accommodation and support.
Practitioner Manager, Jane Billings, said: “Hosts come from a wide range of backgrounds and have varied work and life experiences and interests. We welcome applications from people from all walks of life, regardless of their background, age, sexuality, gender, ethnicity, religious beliefs, employment and marital status. We would particularly welcome people with ground floor accommodation and people with experience or willingness to support service users with complex needs.”
“We also 'match' hosts and service users carefully and monitor placements closely so that both hosts and services users benefit from the placement.”
