Christmas and New Year Household Waste Collections

A message to our residents

I would like to thank all of our residents for their commitment to recycling over the festive period this year.

Father Christmas was clearly very kind to the boys and girls of the Vale and as a result Council refuse crews collected a record amount of household recycling over the Christmas and New Year period.

Our staff did everything possible to collect the extra recycling and composting waste left out last week. I am aware that despite our best efforts we still need to mop up some missed collections and would like to assure all of our residents that we are working hard to clear these. I would also like to apologise for any inconvenience that missed collections may have caused.

Acting sustainably today is a gift to future generations and we all need to be committed to reducing our own 'footprint'. The Vale of Glamorgan Council has to meet challenging recycling targets, and faces financial penalties imposed by the Welsh Government if we fail to do so. Meeting our targets is especially important when the amount of funding the Council receives continues to be cut. This is because any money used to pay these penalties would have to be taken from other services.

I’d like to thank our residents once again for working with us to ensure the service that we provide for them works as well as it possibly can. If anyone would like more information on recycling and waste collection in the Vale they can find out more by logging onto or by calling 01446 700111.

Yours sincerely,

Clifford Parish
