17 students from the Vale of Glamorgan have been successful in their auditions to join one or more National Youth Arts Wales groups this year.

Four students were accepted to join the National Youth Orchestra of Wales, and a further four successfully auditioned to join the National Youth Theatre of Wales.

The remaining nine students joined various other groups, National Youth Dance Wales, National Youth Brass Band, the National Youth Choir, and the National Youth Wind Orchestra of Wales.

In addition, there were 12 students from the Vale who gained places on one of the various NYAW development initiatives.

In total 863 young people applied to join one or more of the NYAW groups in 2015.

Cllr Chris Elmore, cabinet member for Schools, said: “It’s fantastic to see the level of talent available in the Vale, and even better to see these young people given the opportunity to develop their talents.

“My congratulations go to all the young people who successfully auditioned, and to those accepted onto the development schemes. I wish them all the very best of luck for the future.”

Supported by a range of organisations, including the Vale of Glamorgan Council, NYAW promotes national performing arts opportunities for young people through local, regional and national partnerships.
