Barry shows support for local champion Lee Selby

Hundreds of people gathered in Barry to show their appreciation for Barry boxing star Lee Selby this Saturday.
Selby was named IBF Featherweight World Champion after beating Russian Evgeny Gradovich at the O2 Arena in London.
And to celebrate the Council, with support from Barry Town Council, Bro Radio, and boxing promoters Matchroom, treated Lee and his team to an open-top bus tour through Barry, provided by the Cardiff Transport Preservation Group.
The former Colcot Primary School pupil was cheered onto a stage set up on Barry Island by hundreds of fans, and then held a Q&A session hosted by Bro Radio’s Deano from Daytime, and stayed to sign hundreds of autographs and pose for photos.
Selby said: “After the fight I had to watch it over about five times and I was back and forth the mirror checking my black eyes to make sure it was real.”
Lee became the 12th World Champion to come out of Wales, and while he and his family enjoy a well-earned holiday, plans are being drawn up for the first defence of his title in Cardiff in September.
