Published 16 June 2015

The Vale of Glamorgan Council has taken a further step towards the creation of a community garden at Cemetery Approach, Barry with funding support being proposed by Barry Town Council offer at a special meeting on 24 March 2015.

In 2012 residents took part in a consultation on the future of Cemetery Approach, with a community garden being voted the most popular option. Planning permission was granted in November 2014.

The proposal is to transform two parcels of land at Cemetery Approach into an open community garden and nature reserve, accessible to all.

The project could also see an outdoor classroom, new lawns, and nature conservation areas created following the conclusion of the design process. A joint project board has been agreed to move matters forward and to finalise designs.

Cllr Gwyn John, Cabinet Member for Visible and Leisure Services, said: “I’m very pleased that we can finally put these plans into action. This is exactly what the local residents asked us to do, and I’m very happy that we’ve been able to follow that through. I’m hoping this will become a welcome addition to the local area.”
