Community Chest funding sees surge in sporting opportunities

A number of local sports clubs and organisations have recently benefitted from funding totalling £18,009 thanks to the Community Chest scheme.

 

Penarth-Cricket-ClubThe funding will be utilised to create new or further develop existing sports opportunities in the Vale of Glamorgan, including a new tai chi club in Llancarfan.

 

Funding has also seen improved opportunities for under 9’s at Penarth Cricket Club, who previously received funding to develop opportunities for girls at the club, which has seen female membership numbers increasing.

 

Touch rugby club Phoenix Touch are looking to establish new under 16 girls and boys sessions, and have benefitted from funding for new equipment, initial venue hire, and further coach education.

 

Cogan Coronation Athletic Football Club, Penarth Gymnastics Club, Barry Air Training Corps and Penarth Hockey Club all received a share of the funding to enable them to send their coaches on training courses.

 

Whitmore Bay Surf Lifesaving Club, Sully Centurions, Llantwit Major Surf Lifesaving Club Cowbridge and District Angling Association, Barry Yacht Club, St Athan Golf Club and Cottrell Park Golf Club have all also benefitted from funding for equipment.

 

The Community Chest scheme is funded by Sport Wales and managed locally by the Vale Council’s Sports and Play Development Team.

 

Clubs interested in further developing the opportunities they offer are able to apply for Community Chest funding. The deadline for applications for the next Community Chest meeting is 9th July.
