Published 01 June 2015

The Vale Council’s Sports and Play Development Team have organised a number of coach education courses for individuals coaching sport within local community clubs and organisations.

Delivered as part of the Creating Confident Coaches project within the Vale Sport plan, the courses aim to enhance the knowledge of existing and prospective coaches and volunteers to help them deliver quality sports opportunities.

A First Aid course will be held on Sunday 14 June at the F.A.S.T. offices on Gladstone Road from 9.30am to 3.30pm, there is a Sportscoach UK Safeguarding and Protecting Children in Sport course taking place on Tuesday 23 June from 6pm to 9pm at the Civic Offices in Barry, and there is also a Sportscoach UK Equality in your Coaching course on offer on Tuesday 14 July from 6pm to 9pm, again at the Civic Offices.

The cost of each course is £25, with the Equality in your Coaching course free to coaches who deliver in sports clubs and organisations that work in partnership with the Vale Council’s Sports and Play Development Team.

Cabinet Member for Visible Services and Leisure, Cllr Gwyn John said: “There is a wealth of fantastic sports opportunities being delivered by local community coaches and volunteers across the Vale of Glamorgan. We hope the coach education programme delivered by the Sports and Play Development will assist them with their delivery.”

Community leadership, Health Social Care and Wellbeing, and Learning and Skills are three of the Council’s priority outcomes that programmes such as the Creating Confident Coaches programme delivered by the Sports and Play Development Team are helping to work towards.
