Free training for international sportspeople

The Vale of Glamorgan Council is offering 10 high performance sportspeople the unique opportunity of gaining free use of the Vale’s leisure facilities as part of the Sports Academy scheme.

To be eligible to apply for membership, individuals must participate in a sport that is recognised by Sport Wales and be affiliated to the appropriate recognised National Governing Body.

They must also have recently represented Wales or Great Britain in their sport and be in a position to achieve further international honours in the future.

The scheme, delivered in partnership with Legacy Leisure, aims to support Welsh or British sports internationals that live in the Vale of Glamorgan by enabling them to use leisure facilities that are appropriate to their training needs.

Cabinet Member for Visible Services and Leisure, Cllr Gwyn John said: “The Vale of Glamorgan Council is committed to supporting young talent in the Vale. The Sports Academy scheme demonstrates this commitment and hopefully will see the presence of sporting champions from the Vale in future major sporting events.”
