Dolphin planning application approved

The Vale of Glamorgan Council’s planning committee has resolved to approve an application for a residential and commercial development on the Barry Island pleasure park site.
Subject to planning conditions, the development will see the demolition of the Dolphin pub and a block of 24 two-bedroom flats, one three-bedroom flat, and 4 ground-floor commercial units built on the site.
The approval of this application could see the final hurdle overcome on the road to reinstalling the once-renowned Barry Island Pleasure Park funfair.
Director of Development Services, Rob Thomas, said: “We’re really pleased to be able to move this forward. As I have always said, we are very eager to see Barry Island restored to its former glory, and if this approval means we can finally move towards the revival of the funfair then I think that’s good news for everyone involved.
“It’s been a difficult journey so far, but now that planning permission has been approved, we’re hoping the site owners will put the necessary arrangements in place to allow the funfair to be brought back to life.”
