Cllr Elmore said: “I am delighted to once again find myself reviewing work on another new school for the Vale. The new learning community provides opportunities to deliver 21st Century facilities across the primary, secondary, and Welsh language sectors.

“Ysgol Dewi Sant and the Llantwit Learning Community as a whole will provide the town with education facilities that are second to none.”

The new building is being constructed without disruption to either pupils or staff at Ysgol Dewi Sant. The new 210 pupil, single storey school utilises the same lauded design as the recently opened Ysgol Nant Talwg in Barry and will feature a central learning zone leading to eight classrooms and a flexible sports and dining hall space.

Through the use of advanced building materials and intelligent design, such as roof mounted solar panels to generate emission free electricity, the new school will achieve an excellent environmental performance rating.

Jane Hutt AM said: “The construction of Ysgol Dewi Sant is an exciting aspect of the wider Llantwit Learning Community project funded by the Welsh Government’s 21st Century Schools programme and the Vale Council. Congratulations to all who have helped bring about this fantastic development in education in Llantwit Major.”

Ysgol Dewi Sant is set to open to pupils in September 2015.
