New Opening Times for Vale Libraries

Published 21 May 2015

From Monday 1 June, the four main libraries in the Vale will change to their new opening hours.

Following consultation with library users and residents at the end of 2014, results showed that people wished to have libraries open 6 days a week, with no closure during the lunch periods and a late evening available at all libraries.

The changes apply to Barry, Cowbridge, Llantwit Major, and Penarth libraries, with all four remaining open until 7pm for one day a week.

Barry library will open at 9.30am every day and close at 7pm on Mondays, 5.30pm from Tuesday to Friday, and 4pm on Saturdays.

Cowbridge, Llantwit Major, and Penarth libraries will all open at 10am and close at 5pm on weekdays and at 4pm on Saturdays. 7pm openings will be on Wednesdays at Cowbridge, Tuesdays at Llantwit Major, and Thursdays at Penarth.

Opening hours at Dinas Powys, Rhoose, St. Athan, Sully and Wenvoe libraries remain the same for the present.

The change in hours will give library users the same opportunity to make use of a valuable service, whilst also enabling the library service to meet savings targets and continue to provide one of the most popular services in the Vale.
