Vale of Glamorgan Council employee Ashley Criddle, an apprentice electrician with the housing department’s responsive repairs team, has been named Welsh Apprentice of the Year at the Apprenticeship Awards Cymru 2015.
The awards aim to recognise and celebrate employers, learners, and providers across Wales who develop their workforce through apprenticeships and support their employees during their training.
And the Apprentice of the Year category looks to showcase the dedication, commitment and high level of skills of individual candidates who have chosen the apprenticeship route to further their own career.
Ashley, now in the third year of his apprenticeship, will spend three days in Deeside, Flintshire this week competing in the World Skills UK competition in in the Electrical Installation category.
The announcement comes after the Vale Council’s Housing Strategy Manager, Jenny Lewington, was shortlisted as one of three housing professionals across Wales for the CIH Cymru Rising Stars award. Jenny will be presenting and debating as part of the competition at next week’s CIH Cymru conference in Cardiff’s City Hall.
Head of Housing Services, Hayley Selway, said: “It is fantastic to see the talent we have here in the Vale. Both Ashley and Jenny excel in their areas and definitely want to make a difference for the residents of the area. I wish both of them good luck.”
