Welsh hockey star inspires Vale youngsters
13 November 2015
Welsh Hockey international Beth Fisher co-hosted a young ambassadors training day in Barry this week as part of a scheme run by the Vale of Glamorgan Council to get more young people involved in sport at school.
Fisher, who has amassed 49 caps for Wales, attended in her capacity as a Sky Sports Living for Sport Mentor and talked about her own experience in sports and how the young ambassadors could inspire fellow pupils to participate in sports.
The young ambassador movement aims to empower and inspire young people to become role models and leaders through sport, by developing their confidence and skills in order to increase physical participation in others.
The Council’s sports development team is currently working with over 100 young ambassadors across the Vale. These include bronze ambassadors based in primary schools and silver and gold ambassadors in secondary schools. Every year the Vale of Glamorgan provides the ambassadors with an annual training day to ensure that the young people are equipped to deliver activities within their schools.
The Vale of Glamorgan Council’s Sport Development Workforce Co-ordinator, Steffan Williams, said: “This is an extremely exciting scheme that will provide invaluable experience for young people to inspire fellow pupils to participate in physical activity.”
