Barry Cheerleaders Hit New Heights
29 October 2015
A new cheerleading club has been set up in Barry thanks to funding from Sport Wales Community Chest.
The cheerleading club, which is open to both boys and girls between the ages of 11 and 16 years, was set up by the Central Explosion Cheerleading Academy in response to demand through the 5x60 Programme. In the short time since the club was set up, 20 new members have joined.
The club for 11-16 year-olds train every Tuesday at St Richard Gwyn High School between 6.00pm and 7.00pm with new members always welcome.
Due to the success of the youth group, a new class is starting for juniors between the ages of 8 and 11 years on Tuesdays from 5.00pm–6.00pm.
The project meets one of the aims of the Vale sport Plan, tackling inequalities, through providing additional opportunities for females to take part in sport. Community Chest is funded by Sport Wales and managed locally by the Vale of Glamorgan Council’s Sports and Play Development Team.
Clubs or organisations who are interested in further developing the opportunities they offer can find out more by contacting the Sports and Play Development Team on 01446 704793.
