Children embrace Summer Reading Challenge

21 October 2015

This year’s Summer Reading Challenge with the theme of ‘Record Breakers’ captured the imagination of children in schools across the Vale of Glamorgan.

Summer-Reading-Challenge-2015Membership at Cowbridge Library swelled as over 300 pupils from the area took up the challenge to read six books during their summer holidays.

Over 200 children completed the Summer Reading Challenge to receive their medals and certificates.

Commenting, Chris Elmore, Cabinet Member for Children’s Services and Schools said, ‘I’m delighted that so many children embraced this year’s Summer Reading Challenge.  Books transport us to different worlds, educate and inform us, stimulate and inspire us.  Encouraging people to read at an early age is so important for their development and is something that will stand them in good stead for the rest of their lives.  A big congratulations to all the children and schools that took part!”

This year’s Summer Reading Challenge was won by Ysgol Y Bont Faen, whot beat last year’s winners, St. David’s, Colwinston.
