Vale Council to serve eviction notice to travellers

14 October 2015

The Vale of Glamorgan Council will be serving an order for possession to the travellers who have occupied Nell’s Point car park at Barry Island without authorisation.

The Council was granted a possession order at a hearing at Cardiff Civil Justice Centre on Wednesday 14 October. This has now given the local authority the legal right to evict the travellers.

After yesterday accepting the Council’s application to deal with the hearing as a matter of urgency the court has today found that the travellers have no right to occupy the land. The court has ordered the travellers to vacate and give possession of the land at Nell’s Point to the Council forthwith.

Cllr Neil Moore, Leader of the Vale of Glamorgan Council, said: “Since the car park was first occupied council officers have worked diligently to ensure they are removed from the site as quickly as possible.

“I have consistently maintained that despite criticism from certain quarters we have dealt with the matter within the legal process and in a highly efficient manner.  We are now nearing the end of this process and intend to return the site to public use very soon."
