Llanfair C.P. School praised for good progress by Schools Inspector

16 October 2015

Llanfair C.P. School has made good progress since its inspection in July 2014 according to schools inspector, Estyn and will now be removed from the list of schools requiring monitoring by the education watchdog.

In its report following a visit to the school in September, Estyn concluded that ‘the curriculum now provides a suitable range of opportunities to challenge more able pupils and that teachers’ planning takes good account of the prior achievement of more able pupils and provides sufficient challenge to move pupils on to their next stage of learning.’

Improvements were also noted in the Foundation Phase with, ‘many more able pupils reading fluently and discussing the content of their books effectively.’

Very good progress had also been made in addressing the Inspector’s concerns over the provision for pupils’ wellbeing with the school site now considered to be secure and safe.

The leadership and management of the school was also deemed to have made very good progress along with the fostering a closer working relationship with the school’s governors.

Newly appointed headteacher, Mr. Jon-Paul Guy said, “I am delighted that the report recognises the very strong progress made by the school.  I would like to extend my congratulations to everyone involved who’ve worked exceptionally hard in the last year to achieve this outcome.  I look forward to building on this success in the future”.

Commenting Councillor Chris Elmore, Cabinet Member for Children’s Services and Schools said, “The progress that the school has made since Estyn’s inspection last year (July 2014) is to be commended.  They have responded positively and decisively to the inspector’s comments and have really turned things around.”

He added, “What they have achieved in a very short time is quite remarkable and is testament to the hard work and determination of everyone involved in the school - the headteacher, staff, pupils, governors and parents.”
