The Quality Mark Bronze Award is a celebration of the success of the governing body and its role within the school and in raising standards.
Chair of the Board of Governors, Edwina Gill, received the good news earlier this month after submitting a portfolio of the group’s work for assessment. After receiving the award she said: “The recognition of the board of governors’ achievements by Governors Wales is a testament to the continued hard work of all involved. Every one of our governors gives up their own time to help Sully Primary provide its pupils with the best start in life.
“We see the impact of our work every day in the school’s improvement but I am delighted that this work has now been recognised nationally. It would be fantastic if this great news prompted other members of the community who have thought about getting involved in their local school but not yet taken the plunge to do so.”
Cllr Chris Elmore, Cabinet Member for Children’s Services & Schools, said: “The Vale of Glamorgan is blessed with a number of very effective governing boards at both primary and secondary level. High calibre governors can play a huge role in school improvement and it is great to see the good work of those at Sully Primary recognised. “I would like to thank not only those at Sully, but all the governors across the Vale who volunteers their time to help improve our schools.”
The principle behind the Quality Mark is that it acts as a self-review to ensure that governing bodies have in place excellent processes and practices which allow their contribution and influence to make a real difference to the leadership and management of the school.
The Bronze Award provides a benchmark against which governing bodies can assess their effectiveness. The Quality Mark is centred on an audit of policy and procedural documentation with governing bodies required to build a portfolio of evidence based on a checklist designed to enhance and improve governing body effectiveness.
