Electoral registration officers to visit households in the Vale

30 September 2015

Electoral registration officers will be visiting households in the Vale between 26 September and 30 October as part of the Council’s annual canvass of voters.

Officers will only be visiting those households that failed to respond to forms sent out earlier this year asking residents to confirm the information that appears on the electoral register for that address.

The aim of the door-to-door visits is to ensure that the electoral register is up to date, and to identify any residents who are not registered so that they can be encouraged to do so. Anyone calling at properties will have a photographic ID.

With important National Assembly of Wales and Police and Crime Commissioner elections taking place in May 2016, this is an opportunity for residents to make sure that they will be able to take part.

Rhydian Thomas, Head of Wales Office at the Electoral Commission, said: “The annual canvass is an opportunity for people to check whether they’re registered. It’s essential for a healthy democracy that everyone who is entitled to vote is able to so, and that voter registration is easier than ever with the online system of registration.”
