New kitchen gets the thumbs up from children at Llangan Primary School

Children at Llangan Primary School in Cowbridge were all smiles this week as a new kitchen was unveiled at their school thanks to an investment from the Vale of Glamorgan Council.

Commenting, Councillor Chris Elmore Cabinet Member for Children’s Services and Schools said, “At the Vale of Glamorgan Council we have always championed the cause of locally sourced produce for our schools and, where possible, school meals are freshly prepared on site.  With over 7,000 meals to prepare each day at 54 locations across the local authority area this is no small undertaking.”

He added, “For the past five years, a lack of space in the kitchen at Llangan Primary School meant that meals had to be prepared off-site.  Clearly this was something that we were keen to address.  With a significant investment from the Council and the help of the school’s Headteacher, Mr Steve Williams we were able to extend the kitchen and provide a new fit for purpose facility with equipment to cater for the school’s 120 pupils and staff.  There’s a lot to be said about the old adage, ‘well fed children are happy children’ but judging from the reaction of the pupils I met this week this certainly seems to be the case.”

Closing Councillor Elmore said, “In addition to the new facilities, the school now has its own cook and kitchen assistant to deliver tasty and nutritious meals.”
