Children's book written by local mums now available at Barry library

The latest children’s book to be produced as part of the Vale of Glamorgan Council’s Putting Families First Project that last year drew praise from Children’s Laureate Michael Morpurgo and actor Michael Sheen is now available at Barry library.
‘The Wrong Story’ is available at Barry library and tells the tale of a boy called Jack who finds himself in the wrong story, and of his journey back to the story book where he belongs.
The book was written by seven Barry based parents taking part in the Welsh Government funded project.
The inspiration from the tale came from reading traditional children’s stories and the group worked with storyteller Mike Church and illustrator Rachel Tudor Best to study various creative writing techniques and then draft their book from scratch.
Cllr Lis Burnett, Cabinet Member for Regeneration and Education, said: “When this project attracted national attention last year we were all determined that more parents in Barry should be given the chance to build skills and confidence through creative writing.
“The whole group had a real interest in creative writing and wanted to create something that could be passed down to their children. Together they have created an enchanting story that will captivate children.
“I know that everyone involved feels privileged to have played a part and am delighted to see its repeat its success.”
‘The Wrong Story’ has been published and is available now in Barry Library. It has its own ISDN number and will also be available in the British Library in London.
