Vale of Glamorgan Council given full marks by the Auditor General for Wales

09 December 2016

The Auditor General for Wales has given the Vale of Glamorgan Council’s financial monitoring procedures a clean bill of health in his recent Annual Audit Letter to the Council.

Huw Vaughan Thomas, Wales’s Auditor General, has signed off the Vale of Glamorgan Council’s accounts for 2015/16 and 2016/17 and confirmed that the Council had complied with all of its responsibilities relating to financial reporting and the use of resources.  He also confirmed that the Council has appropriate measures in place to ensure economy, efficiency and effectiveness in its use of resources and found no issues with the processing of grant claims and financial returns.

Welcoming the findings, Cllr Neil Moore, Leader of the Vale of Glamorgan Council, said: “The Vale of Glamorgan Council has a long held and well-deserved reputation for prudent financial management and I am proud of the commitment from our staff to ensure this prudence remains in place.

“This year has already seen the Council’s vision for the future and commitment to improvement praised by the Wales Audit Office in an overwhelmingly positive corporate assessment.  The Council has also been rated as the highest performing Council in Wales by the Local Government Data Unit, continuing the success of the previous year.  For this continued commendation to be followed by a clean financial bill of health is yet more evidence that this Council is serving the Vale of Glamorgan residents to the highest standard.”
