Council leader welcomes Aston Martin investment

24 February 2016

The announcement that Aston Martin has chosen St Athan in the Vale of Glamorgan as the site for production of its new luxury car has been welcomed by the Leader of the Vale of Glamorgan Council.

Cllr Neil Moore said: “I am absolutely delighted that after nearly two years of negotiations we will soon be welcoming one of the motor industry’s most prestigious names to the Vale of Glamorgan.

“The St Athan site has been chosen ahead of 20 other locations across the world. Today’s announcement will make the Vale of Glamorgan the only place in Wales where complete cars are built.

“There could not be a stronger vote of confidence in the Vale of Glamorgan as a place to set up business than the one we see today. It is also a vindication of the work that this Council has carried out with Welsh Government to improve the highway infrastructure that serves the Cardiff Airport and St Athan Enterprise Zone.

“This announcement marks a very significant point in the ongoing resurgence of the Vale of Glamorgan. As well as the investment in the super hanger which will bring 750 jobs, St Athan will also be home to an industry centre of excellence. This means this is not just an investment in manufacturing but in the local workforce and the regeneration of the Vale of Glamorgan as a whole.

“The Cardiff Airport and St Athan Enterprise Zone has long been recognised as hugely important to the economic development of the Vale of Glamorgan, and as such has been central to our, and Welsh Government’s plans for the area. The Vale of Glamorgan Council is represented on the board and plays an active role in its work.  It is fantastic to see this work and that of our partners now bearing fruit.”
