Development Courses for Vale of Glamorgan sports clubs

18 February 2016

The Vale of Glamorgan Council is continuing its commitment to get people active and healthy in the region, by supporting local sports clubs to run their activities more effectively.

As part of the Vale Sports Plan, the Council’s Sports and Play Development Team are offering courses to local sports clubs and organisations who deliver sports activities in the Vale.

The Lets Talk Tactics course teaches the skills to develop and run clubs, and create a development plan.  Participants will learn new ways to plan their development and will take away examples that they can progress with their club.  The course takes place on Tuesday 1 March, from 6pm – 9pm at the Vale of Glamorgan Civic Offices, Holton Road.

Keep Your Eye on the Ball is a course about raising the profile of a club in the wider community.  Participants will identify the assistance that is available to them in their community, using real-life examples and best practice.  The course will also touch on social media and ways of promoting clubs.  The course takes place on Wednesday 2 March, at Barry YMCA between 6pm and 9pm.

Both courses will be delivered by Sustainable Sport Solutions and are free to sports clubs in the Vale of Glamorgan.
An Emergency First Aid course will be held on Wednesday 16 and Thursday 17 March between 6pm – 9pm on both evenings. The course will be delivered by F.A.S.T. and held at Barry YMCA. The cost will be £25 per person.
Spaces on all three courses are limited so please contact the Sports & Play Development Team on 01446 704793 to book a space.

Cllr Gwyn John, Cabinet Member for Visible and Leisure Services, stated:

“Local sports clubs are an important part of our communities and often do not get the recognition they deserve.  They are a focal point for residents and bring people together for the enjoyment of sport and recreation.

I’m pleased that we continue to support these clubs in new ways, for example providing courses that enable them to develop and be sustainable long into the future.  By doing this we can encourage more people to join a club and feel the health benefits of participating in sports.”

The Sports and Play Development Team are in the process of updating the Vale Sports Club Directory, which contains contact details of local clubs and is available to the general public.

There is no charge to be included in the directory, and if you would like your club to be included, please contact the Sports & Play Development Team on 01446 704793.

If you or your family are looking for a local club, call the team to find out about the sporting opportunities in your area.
