Safer Vale Clean Up

Tuesday 23 February

The Safer Vale Partnership working together with Keep Wales Tidy and the RAF Association has completed another successful litter pick in Gilbert Street, Barry on Wednesday 27th January 2016.

The land which was covered in brambles contained waste such as household rubbish, but also items such as broken glass, broken windows, used needles, dog waste and food waste; which could attract vermin to the area.

Within a three hour period a team of three collected the equivalent of 40 bags worth of rubbish.

Work has been ongoing to ascertain who is responsible for the fly tipping and if anybody is caught fly tipping they will be prosecuted.

The gated lane area to the rear of Gilbert Street is also a concern as there are numerous items of waste also dumped at this location. If residents continue to dump waste here then we will be taking action in the form of fines and through the anti social behaviour process.

PCSO Rhiannon Harris said ”Another litter pick is planned for the near future and the Partnership are urging residents to come out and assist them to help make their area a cleaner, tidier and a safer place to be. This issue is everyone’s problem and we as a community need to work together to tackle this and prevent it from happening again”.

Tim Wort from Keep Wales Tidy said “A massive thank you to Geoff from the RAF Association and PCSO Rhiannon Cummings – it was not the easiest place to clean up, so to collect 40 bags worth of rubbish is fantastic. Unfortunately there is still more to collect but this has already made the area nicer for local residents”
