Llantwit Youth Council host evening for town councillors
26 January 2016
The informal evening gave the Llantwit Youth Council and the counsillors the chance to get to know each other and to discuss the views of the young people in the town.
Llantwit Youth Council hosted an informal evening for town councillors on Friday 22nd January at Llantonian Hall, Llantwit Major. The evening enabled young people and town councillors to get to know each other better and discuss the views and ideas of young people in the town. Furthermore, the young people gave a presentation to the town council about their recent work and what they plan to do in the coming months, including their continuing support of the Town Mayor’s charities and organising a ‘Clean for the Queen’ event in the town. The Town Mayor, Councillor Tricia Lancaster, praised the work of the youth council and thanked the young people for a lovely evening.
The youth council, which is a partnership project between the Vale of Glamorgan Youth Service and the Llantwit Major Town Council, has been extremely successful over the last two years in providing a valuable forum for young people to express their views and take action to improve their town. Being part of the youth council has also helped young people develop a variety of transferable skills that will help them in their future careers, grow in confidence and gain accredited qualifications that they can present on their UCAS forms and CV’s. Members confirmed that they are learning and developing within an environment that they find positive and fun.
