Approval given for new 3G pitches

14 July 2016

The go-ahead to take forward the development of six new all-weather 3G sports pitches at the Colcot Sports Centre, has been approved by the Vale of Glamorgan Council at the Cabinet meeting on Monday 11 July.

A total of £614,000 of funding has been made available to finance the development of the new facilities, which will include four 5-a-side pitches and two 7-a-side pitches.

The development of further smaller 3G pitches, in support of the pitch development at Jenner Park by the Council last year, will increase playing opportunities for clubs and schools across the Vale.  Colcot Sports Centre was chosen as the best location to create the new pitches, due to the available space and close proximity to a number of schools.

The development of the pitches will require planning permission and an application will be submitted shortly.  The management arrangements for the pitches will be considered as part of a detailed business case.

Cllr Gwyn John, Cabinet Member for Visible, Leisure and Regulatory Services, said: “Following the success of the all-weather pitch at Jenner Park, I’m pleased that we are in a position to announce our commitment to invest in a further six 3G pitches to support sports development in the Vale.”

“We want more people to take part in sporting activities and the development of additional 3G pitches will make it easier for people to get involved in all weather conditions.”
