On an evening marked by great community spirit, a rousing samba performance by Upbeat opened the event with Colin Davies, Communities First’s Cluster Manager, compering the evening and introducing the certificate winners.

The audience heard about the various schemes and programmes and watched short films – created by Mela Communications – showcasing the various people and projects that Communities First work with.

Barry Communities First, Glamorgan Voluntary Services and the Cardiff and Vale College had displays to demonstrate what services they offer and partners of Barry Communities First were also invited to attend the event.  These included Flying Start, Barry Job Centre, Vale of Glamorgan Council, Bryn Hafren Comprehensive, Putting Families First, The People Centre and Parkside Christian Centre.

Councillor Lis Burnett, Deputy Leader for the Vale of Glamorgan Council, spoke of how proud local people should be of their achievements, and praised the Communities First team for their efforts.  She said: “It’s really inspirational to see everyone being recognised for helping the community they live in. Communities First offer such a fantastic range of projects, which are made all the more successful by those that make time to offer their help.  Volunteers receiving certificates. The celebration event hoped to show recognition for those that have, over the last year, helped with their learning, health and employment and skills projects. Barry Communities First would like to thank all those who attended the evening and congratulate all who received a certificate or award.
