Community Chest Funding

28 July 2016

Could your sports club or organisation benefit from funding to further develop your existing community sport project, or would you like to create new sports opportunities for residents in the Vale of Glamorgan?

If so, the Vale Council’s Sports & Play Development Team may be able to assist you. They manage the Sport Wales Community Chest funding scheme which can provide up to £1500 to clubs and organisations, who can demonstrate they are going to deliver projects that will increase participation levels or improve standards.

The types of organisations that can apply include Sports Club or Associations, Youth Clubs and Community Groups.  The funding can be used towards areas such as coaching courses, equipment, initial venue hire and marketing.

Three organisations have recently benefitted from Community Chest funding.  Colwinston Community Association secured £1440 to help them to introduce new coaching sessions to children and young people in the area.  The funding will be used to send volunteers on coaching courses, safeguarding course and first aid courses.  It will also be used to pay for a coach for an initial period of time until the volunteers are trained up.

Wick Youth Club will also be developing new coaching opportunities for children and young people.  They will be using their funding of £1095 to purchase equipment for the sessions.  They will be teaming up with Colwinston Community Association to organise an in-house training course that will be delivered by the Vale Council’s Sports & Play Development team to provide their young volunteers with the skills and knowledge to assist with the delivery of activities.

Penarth Gymnastics Club were successful in receiving £790 to develop new opportunities for disabled young adults.  They will be delivering new gymnastics sessions in conjunction with Beechwood College and will use the funding for initial venue hire, initial coaching costs and equipment.

The next Community Chest panel meeting is taking place on Thursday 15 September, with a deadline for applications of Thursday 1 September.  If you would like to discuss a potential application, contact the Sports & Play Development Team on 01446 704793 or
