Sun and Games around the Vale
19 July 2016
With the summer holidays fast approaching, the Vale of Glamorgan Council’s Sports & Play Development team have been busy planning their annual Sports & Play Family Fun Day.
Taking place on Saturday 30 July at Barry’s King Square, between 11am–3pm, the free event will give children, young people and families the chance to try out various sporting activities, including athletics, badminton and table tennis.
Also on offer during the day will be a variety of play activities, including arts & crafts, giant outdoor games, and a home-made ‘photobooth’ in which you can take your own selfies. The Sports & Play Development Team will be on hand, to help with activities throughout the day.
In partnership with local town and community councils, the Sports & Play Development Team will also be running a programme of diverse activities during the summer holidays: Play-Schemes, Play Ranger sessions and Family Fun Days will run throughout the holidays.
On Wednesday 3 August, National Play Day will be celebrated at Belle Vue Park in Penarth, with a Family Fun session between 3pm–7pm. Dinas Powys Community Council, with funding from United Welsh Housing, will be supporting a Family Fun Day on Monday 25 July from 11am–3pm at the Murchfield Community Centre, whilst Barry Town Council are supporting two Family Fun Days: at Victoria Park, Cadoxton, on Wednesday 17 August, and at Gladstone Gardens on Wednesday 24 August. Both events will run from 3pm–7pm.
There are also a range of Play-Scheme and Play Ranger sessions taking place in Llantwit Major, Dinas Powys and Wick that are supported by their respective town and community councils.
