Carers Week 6 - 12 June

Carers Week is an annual campaign to raise awareness of caring, highlighting the challenges that carers face and recognise the contribution they make to families and communities throughout the UK.

 

In the Vale of Glamorgan, a host of local events will be taking place to celebrate the week.


Monday 6 June - Parents Federation Carers Week Special Meet at 11am for coffee at Gwalia Tea Rooms at the St Fagan’s National History Museum, Cardiff. Open to Vale and Cardiff carers. (ring 02920 565917 or email hasina@parentsfed.org for carers to confirm attendance) 

 

Monday 6 June - Crossroads Penarth social group for carers and their dependant with dementia between 2pm - 3.30pm at Stanwell Road Baptist Church, Penarth.  A social event for carers and their dependant relative with dementia or late onset mental health illness. We have a speaker for half an hour and the rest of the time we chat over tea/coffee and a biscuit. Ring 02920 700057 or email counsellor@crossroads-vale.org.uk for more information. 

 

Tuesday 7 June - 10am to 12pm Senior Health Shop, Barry. Emotional and Practical Support is available from your local Epilepsy Group in Vale of Glamorgan ring 01446 732385 for more details. 

 

Tuesday 7 June – 2pm - 4pm Marie Curie Caring for Carers Café (open for carers caring for someone with a terminal illness).  Come along and meet our team who are offering advice at this Carers’ Cafe: a Marie Curie Nurse, a legal representative and a benefits advisor (contact Sarah Johnson 02920 426023 for more details). 

 

Wednesday 8 June - 9.30am - 11.30am Information Stand at Western Vale Family Practice. Vale’s Carers Development Officer will be available in Reception area to provide carers’ information.  Carers information will also be available in Cowbridge Library. 

 

Wednesday 8 June - 10.00am – 12.30pm Vale Co-Creating Healthy Change Forum - Meet the Welsh Ambulance Service NHS Trust at Llantonian Hall, Boverton Road, Llantwit Major, CF61 1TF. This is an opportunity for you to meet the Ambulance Service, find out more about what it does and also to have your say. As part of the 2016 CW, the Cardiff and Vale University Health Board’s Patient Experience Team will be hosting a number of carer information stands. Carers will have the opportunity to talk with a member of the team who can provide information and signposting on relevant sources of help. Please come along and talk to us about your caring situation.  We will have stalls on the following days/times: 

  • Wednesday 8 June 9am - 12pm Information Stand at Information Centre at Llandough Hospital (with Bipolar UK) 
  • Thursday 9 June 10am - 12pm Age Connects Senior Health Shop 38 Holton Road Barry 
  • Thursday 9 June 1.30pm – 4pm – Llandough Hospital – Information Centre (including Carers Café Information Stand within Information Centre area at Llandough Hospital 1.30pm)

Friday 10 June - Drop-in session between 10am - 2pm around manual handling equipment at Business Service Centre, Hood Road, Barry, CF62 5QN Hosted by Elspeth Cameron (Vale’s manual handling co-ordinator). Mobility equipment and living adaptation/aids will be on display. 


Both Velindre Hospital, Information Stand in outpatients and the main corridor, and Barry Library (window display) will have carers’ information over the whole of Carers’ Week.
