Give & Gain Day in Barry
3 June 2016
Recently, employees from the Vale of Glamorgan Council’s Housing and Building Services department took part in Business in the Community’s Give & Gain Day to support worthy causes in the community.
Every year, Business in the Community and its members come together for Give & Gain Day to tackle a wide range of issues and help create a better society. Give & Gain Day makes the most of employee volunteers who lend a helping hand to community organisations, social enterprises, and schools.
In the Vale of Glamorgan, Council employees were involved in a range of activities. At Barry Community Garden, employees built a fence, laid a new path to the freshly-painted shed, painted a potting shed and a fence surrounding the pond. They also dug over the beds and vegetable plots and managed to get rid of loads of weeds.
At Ty Iolo Hostel, the communal kitchen and lounge received a funky bright coat of paint, as well as the walls in the corridors.
And at the Sladewood and Ty Fynnon flats in Gibbonsdown, the communal areas were cleared and cleaned, the stairwells and landings painted and the litter picked up.
The teams worked extremely hard and were very proud of the volume of work they managed to achieve.
