16 May 2016
Creative Rural Communities (CRC) has launched a pilot scheme to give businesses the opportunity to trial event pop-ups at Dunraven Bay, Southerndown.

The Coastal Communities project is offering experienced businesses & organisations who want the opportunity to trial an event at Dunraven Bay, in the Glamorgan Heritage Coast assistance with event planning, licencing, logistics, marketing & practical requirements in order to run & adapt their events successfully in a coastal location.
CRC, the Vale of Glamorgan’s rural regeneration initiative, hopes businesses & organisations will come forwards to trial events in areas such as arts, performance, sport, craft and food.
The pop-up pilot is part of a series of projects being undertaken along the Heritage Coast thanks to Coastal Communities and Rural Development programme funding. The Coastal Communities funding was awarded to help boost the economic potential of the area. In addition, five new storage units, created to encourage local businesses and beach activity providers to use the coast as a base, will soon be available to hire & are situated adjacent to the Heritage Coast Centre. A newly improved beach slipway at Dunraven Bay has also been recently completed. Due to the funding boost from the Coastal Communities fund, an officer is also in place to offer business support to both existing and new Glamorgan Heritage Coast businesses.
With an increasing trend in event pop-ups becoming more popular, especially in other Heritage Coast designations such as Cornwall and Dorset, there is an opportunity to replicate similar events on the Glamorgan Heritage Coast. It is hoped the event pop-ups will showcase the Glamorgan Heritage Coast to visitors and attract new footfall to the area whilst also providing exciting activities for local residents in the immediate and surrounding areas.
Cabinet Member for Regeneration Councillor Lis Burnett said “We have decided to launch an event pop-up pilot under the Coastal Communities initiative & our local development programme to give an opportunity for businesses to trial events in a unique environment. Event pop-ups are proving to be very popular and successful in not only other coastal locations but also in urban environments and it will be fantastic to see the Glamorgan Heritage Coast area benefitting from that same opportunity.”
We’ve launched this pilot project under our Coastal Communities project & Rural Development programme in order to help businesses pilot activity which will be new to the Glamorgan Heritage Coast area. We now need enthusiastic and experienced businesses & organisations in both the Vale of Glamorgan and Surrounding areas to get in touch with us and express and interest if they think they have a suitable event pop-up idea by 30th May 2016. We hope to run the event pop-up’s in late summer & autumn 2016.
