Richard Cox Exhibition at Art Central
03 May 2016
Artist Richard Cox’s multi-media exhibition of digital photography, paintings, drawings and books has opened at Art Central, the Vale of Glamorgan Council’s prized gallery situated in the Town Hall, Barry.
Trained in ‘Fine Art’, Richard has worked as a teacher and senior lecturer in Art Schools, both in the UK and abroad. He has been a prolific arts organiser, gallery curator and has also worked for the Arts Council of Wales. He has developed a significant portfolio of work that includes his popular digital photographs of Western India’s Stepwells. These images focus on the magnificent structural and architectural well forms, created in the seventh and eighth centuries and used as a water resource.
Influences from Japan led the artist to create his ‘Higashi Series’; a series of studies that focus particularly on Japanese roof form and structure. Numerous travels to the United States have created a long standing interest in American Car designs, which have featured in his drawings since the late 1960s.
On display will also be an interesting collection of photographs, books and model cars that feature the character of ‘Batman’ and other similar collector’s memorabilia, both in Barry County Library and Art Central.
As part of the exhibition’s programme, the Art Central Gallery will be hosting a book-making workshop with the artist on 21 May from 10am – 3pm.
