The primary school was opened in 2015, following the amalgamation of Dinas Powys Infant and Murch Junior School, and has since seen much progress, as showcased in the Estyn report published over the summer.
In the report, the school’s prospects for improvement were rated as excellent – the highest grade available – whilst the pupils were also stated as having high standards of well-being, a broad curriculum of stimulating topics to study and all benefitting from a rich learning environment. This was said to be complemented by the excellent leadership and good teaching, with the senior leadership team at the school identified as playing a significant role in promoting a professional learning culture.
At the event, a presentation outlined the key features of the Inspection Report. Dinas Powys Primary School’s Chair of Governors, Jill Davies, congratulated everyone involved with the school, and commended their hard work during the amalgamation journey of the last eighteen months and the subsequent fantastic inspection. She presented Julie Thompson with flowers in recognition of her excellent leadership.
Also present at the celebration was the Vale of Glamorgan Council’s Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Regeneration and Education, Lis Burnett, as well as the Council’s Head of achievement, David Davies.
Councillor Lis Burnett said: “It has been a fantastic summer for education in the Vale of Glamorgan, with us seeing yet another set of pupils achieve fantastic grades at both GCSE and A-Level. This Estyn Inspection report at Dinas Powys Primary School highlights the commitment and hard work staff at our primary schools put in to ensure that our learners across the Vale of Glamorgan continue to reach their full potential.”
The school is now in its second year. For more information on Dinas Primary School, and other schools across the Vale of Glamorgan, visit the Council's schools' page.
