“Healthier parks for healthier people” as the Vale Council install two new drinking fountains at Victoria Park
09 September 2016
On Tuesday 06 September, the Leader of the Vale of Glamorgan Council, Neil Moore, and fellow Cadoc Ward Councillor Fred Johnson, visited Victoria Park to meet with members of the Friends of Victoria Park, and officially unveil the new drinking fountains.
They were impressed with the new “state of the art” Endura 2 bottle filling station, with its 3 separate drinking stations and its ease of use. On what was a very warm morning, they were especially happy to try some of the cooling water as well.
Installed during the summer holidays, the drinking fountains have already proved a massive hit with visitors. With a 3-tier fountain installed near the Multi–Sports area, visitors and sport players can have a refreshing drink, fill up their hydration packs and bottles using the bottle filler, and even give their 4-legged friends a drink using the bespoke dog bowl fountain.
At the other end of the park, in the children’s play area, another low-level wheelchair-accessible fountain supplies a cooling drink for the younger visitors and their parents.Councillor Neil Moore stated that, “The drinking fountains are a tremendous addition to the facilities at Victoria Park, and it is a pleasure to be able to unveil the new fountains this morning. Drinking fresh water is a fantastic way to improve your health and fitness, so having these fountains available for visitors to use right in the middle of the park is superb.”
Councillor Fred Johnson added, “Being able to secure funding for these fountains, as part of the Main Street area improvement scheme, has been a wonderful opportunity for the Friends Group and the people of Cadoxton. To enjoy free water, with all the health benefits it brings, can only be a good thing.”
Chairperson of the Friends of Victoria Park, Sian Jones, was overjoyed to see the unveiling: “It’s been many years since we first put the item of new drinking fountains on our group minutes, and now they are finally installed and working is just superb. Thanks to our local Councillors for making it all possible. I hope everyone (and their dogs) will enjoy the health benefits, and come and have a drink on us!”
