Porthkerry River Clean Huge Success
Over 50 volunteers from Welsh Water, Natural Resources Wales, Cardiff Rivers Group and the local community joined Vale of Glamorgan Council Rangers to take part in a river clean at Porthkerry Country Park.
They managed to remove every blockage and bit of rubbish to clear the whole length of Barry Brook (runs through Cwm Barry Valley).
All together the removed:
2 wheel barrows
2 water tanks
100s of used wet wipes
They collected enough rubbish to fill 50 bags of rubbish and a maxi skip.
Mel Stewart, ranger said
“Everyone worked so hard, I have never seen the valley look so lovely –We’d like to thank all the volunteers that helped on the day and ask people to use the bins provided to help keep the stream rubbish free in future.”
Thanks to Welsh Water and Marco’s in the Park who very kindly organised burgers and hotdogs for the volunteers.
