Community called upon to support St Athan primary school in garden club bid
30 August 2017
A Vale of Glamorgan Council-run community centre is calling on the public to support local events to help raise money for a school gardening club.
Pupils and parents at St Athan Primary School are trying to raise money for a polytunnel big enough to fit two teachers and 20 pupils.
The school has a garden already, but they need to raise £250 to be able to apply for a grant to help them work on what they have.
A number of people are already signed up to support the project but Milly Nicholson, Treasurer of the Paul Lewis Community centre in St Athan, is urging people to attend the events held at the hall to raise the money needed.
“We have raised a lot of money through our bingo events, and in the past, we have been able to donate to Wales Air Ambulance, buy a picnic bench, and have invested in a wheelchair for a member of the community.
It is important that the children can plant and grow their own food in the garden, to help them learn new skills.” - Milly Nicholson, Treasurer
A bingo night to raise money for the school has been organised for Saturday 07 October.
The community centre often holds fundraising bingo nights for different charities, and recently raised £600 for the Alzheimer’s society.
A bingo night will be held this Saturday 02 September at the Paul Lewis Community centre in St Athan, to raise money for MacMillan cancer.
