Out and About in Dog friendly Vale of Glamorgan this Summer

8 August 2017

A pilot project titled ‘Paws in the Park’ is reaching out to residents to share different ways of exploring the Vale of Glamorgan with their dog this summer.

Dog on the coast

The project is funded through the Welsh Government Rural Communities – Rural Development Programme 2014 – 2020 which is funded by the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development, the Welsh Government and the Vale of Glamorgan Council.

The aim is to encourage businesses to be dog friendly, and the pilot also promotes dog friendly walks, beaches and days out.

The Paws in the Vale businesses have their own guidelines on how to be dog friendly, which include sharing designated dog friendly areas, and recommendations on good walks nearby.

As an introduction to the pilot and a handy guide to visiting the Vale this summer, Paws in the Vale have caught up with regular visitor, Catriona Smith and her dog Millie.

The Paws in the Vale website includes suggestions for dog friendly walks and days out.

Catriona Smith said:

“We spend a lot of time exploring and have enjoyed nearly all of your Paws in the Vale walks Millie’s favourites are ‘Ogmore by sea dog friendly walk’ and Salmon Leaps. Millie especially enjoys galloping through the buttercup fields in Dinas Powys Woods’ while on the Salmon Leaps walk.

“Millie also always enjoys a day out at Cosmeston Lakes Country Park or hitting the dog friendly shops of the Vale including No 39 and Happy Days in Cowbridge. It’s great I can take her along with me.

“We always enjoy stopping off for a bite to eat or refreshments when out on a walk, and having the choice of dog friendly places in and around the Vale is great.”
