People from all over the Vale are sharing their fondest memories as part of Barry library’s ‘Past Times’ exhibition
A memory wall has been created at Art Central, Barry, as a way for people to share their experiences of living in the Vale of Glamorgan.
From school swimming days to catching a glimpse of the elephants bathing at the Watchtower, library workers are encouraging more residents to add to the list.
To mark the 10th anniversary of Barry Library and Art Central Gallery in Kings Square, ‘Picture the Vale –Past Times’ is displaying a fraction of 3,000 images from library archives and from residents living across the Vale.
A team of volunteers helped catalogue the images, which will be part of a collection held at the National Library in Aberystwyth. The aim is to increase Wales’ digital footprint by converting the images online.
Senior Librarian Melanie Weeks said: “We are delighted that the pictures have inspired some wonderful memories, from going on the Barry Island Cable Car to visiting Santa’s Grotto in Dan Evans. There is still time to visit the exhibition and to add your memories to the Wall.”
The exhibition is open from 9.30 – 4.30pm and will run until Saturday 6 January.
The Arts Central will be open over the holidays, except for Sundays, Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day
