Girls’ tennis and pre-school golf to launch for the new year

A number of new sports sessions for young people will be starting in January. Delivered by the Vale of Glamorgan Council, in partnership with local voluntary organisations, the new sessions are part of the local authority’s plan to get more young people than ever taking part in sport in 2017.

 

Young girl at tennis eventThe first is a beginners’ tennis programme for girls designed by Judy Murray, mother of tennis superstar Andy Murray. Part of the Council’s Girls on the Move campaign, Miss Hits is aimed at girls aged 5-8 years, with the sessions designed to ensure girls not only develop their tennis skills, but, more importantly, have fun and make new friends.

 

The weekly one-hour sessions will take at Barry Leisure Centre. Starting from Tuesday 10 January, between 4pm-5pm, they will be delivered by Penny, of Barry Community Tennis Club. The second is a new pre-school golf programme aimed at 2-4 year olds. Delivered in partnership with Cottrell Park Golf Club, as part of their Skratch programme, the sessions will be taking place over 6 weeks at The Hub, Barry YMCA. They start on 12 January, and run Thursday mornings between 9.30am-10.30am. 

 

Golfing toddlers will get the chance to develop their movement skills and hand-eye co-ordination through fun sessions which will cost £3.00. Anyone wanting more information or to book a space should contact Gareth Bennett (Golf Professional) on 07980 656659.
