Llantwit Major Comprehensive School excelled during a recent inspection, rating good across all categories.

Joint headteacher Vince Browne said: “Myself and fellow headteacher Mrs Fiona Greville are very pleased with the report which recognised the high standards being achieved by students at the school and the significant progress that has been made since the last inspection.

“This very positive report coupled with the opening of the fabulous new school buildings indicates that the next few years promises to be a very exciting and successful period for the school.”

Pupils at Llantwit Major Comprehensive School began using new buildings in March, following the completion of work six months ahead of schedule.

The school has seen major investment into its buildings as part of the £24.4 million cash injection into the campus.

The newly-constructed block, which replaces four older buildings, includes new IT suites, a drama studio and science labs, and has been built to the same high standard as the award-winning Penarth Learning Community which was completed in 2015.

New drop-off zones and parking arrangements have helped to ease congestion at the start and end of the day.

A new all-weather 3G sports pitch is also part of the project, a facility that will be open to local residents once completed in March next year.

The new Llantwit Learning Community campus consists of three schools. As well as the upgraded comprehensive school, the town is now served by Ysgol Dewi Sant, the new 210-place Welsh medium primary school which opened its doors in 2015, and Ysgol Y Ddraig, a 420-place English medium primary school, which opened in October 2016.
