With effect from 01 December 2016 provisions within the Immigration Act 2016 requires Licensing Authorities to carry out a check that all applicants have the right to live and work in the UK. All drivers must provide evidence of their right to live and work in the UK either on application for the grant of a licence or upon renewal of an existing licence.

Application Process

  • Before applying for a licence you should contact the Licensing to discuss the Private Hire Operator Conditions
  • Contact the Planning Department to check whether you will need to obtain planning permission for the business.
  • Scottish Disclosure or DBS check (the check will need to be carried out on a 3-yearly basis).
  • If the operator is a Ltd company you must produce a current list of directors from Companies House and each director must produce a standard disclosure.

Once an application has been made you will be issued with Vale of Glamorgan Council Driver and Vehicle record books.
