Course Description

Drawing and Portrait Drawing for Beginners

This course is aimed at complete beginners and will introduce you to drawing. You will learn how to use various drawing techniques and exciting drawing media.

Working in pencil, charcoal, graphite and expressive media you will capture a range of still-life objects, learning the fundamentals of proportion, light and shade, and simple perspective.

Once you have tackled the basics you will then learn how to draw portraits focusing on proportions, measuring techniques and how to apply tonal qualities.


The class will be run in a relaxed and informal manner, with demonstrations shown and constructive feedback and advice given to help the student improve.


Meet the Artist Lucy Jones

Lucy Jones is an experienced art and design tutor with over 10 years experience, and gained a PGCE in Art & Design from Cardiff University. Her background is in graphic design and illustration and gained a Ba(Hons) degree from the University of Plymouth. Her passion lies with drawing and mixed media and she has had her work exhibited in several exhibitions in South Wales. Her sessions are laid back and relaxed with a focus on the individual expressing their own style of work. She aims to build confidence in the learner and extend their use of exciting materials. Lucy is also keen to introduce her learners to a wide range of traditional and contemporary artists, relative to the themes she is teaching.
