Art and Design (Colour, Textiles, Sketchbooks)
This one day workshop will see students considering a theme, designing their own colour-led moodboards, and also ignite the creative process with sketch/photo studio books. Together, we will explore possibilities for inspiring interior (e.g. kid's room) or exterior spaces (e.g. deck/garden nook).
Students will source magazine cuttings of inspiring elements, favourite objects, interior trends and colours for their colour-led moodboards. They will also instigate the creative design process with sketch/collage in little studio books using mixed media, their own small photographs of nature or objects that they love, fragments/leaves, etc.. These ideas and techniques will offer inspiration for their own homes, future projects or further designs/artwork.
Please bring along:
Blank, small square studio/sketchbooks (hard); A3 blank, reversible moodboard (white on one side/black on reverse); mixed media e.g acrylic or watercolour paints/inks or pastels and sketch pencils/black fineliner pen; collected things like cloth fragments, leaves, pretty string or tidbits; old and recent interior/fashion mags for moodboard cuttings; small photographs of favourite natural elements or theme; decent paper for quick sketches and ideas. Scissors and Mixed media Paintbrushes.
Meet the Artist Manisha Harkins
I am a textile designer/colourist who was also a design journalist/prop stylist previously. All areas tie-in to my creativity overall, and will assist and inspire students, hopefully. I paint, design surface patterns, photograph inspiring elements and use colour imaginatively. (At university, I was a passionate screen printer/dyer.) Today, I mainly collaborate in a design partnership with fellow textile designer/colourist Kate Wilding (Serenvida). Together, we are also working on another colour collaboration with a London lifestyle photographer.
