Course Description

Stained Glass - Through the Looking Glass

This course will begin with exploring the Cowbridge Physic Garden and taking simple thumbnail sketches or photos on mobile phones. These images of lines and colour which learners are drawn to which will be the inspiration in creating a design which they will make in stained glass, using the skills which will be taught on this day. Guidance will be given in transforming these ideas into a suitable pattern for a stained glass panel which can be completed in the day. The skills which will be taught are how to cut glass safely and accurately, how to grind the edges, apply copper foil and solder together.

All materials will be provided and have been included in the price of the course. Learners need to wear closed toe shoes and have arms and legs covered. Also bring sketchbook and pencil.

Meet the Tutor - Ingrid Walker

I trained as a stained glass artist at Bristol School of art, and subsequently worked for Bristol Handmade Glass and taught adult classes for the WEA.  After moving back to the Vale of Glamorgan I have taught adult education classes at the Palmerston centre in Barry, the Heritage Coast centre, and in my Home Studio in Southerndown. I also design and make stained glass windows, mirrors, hanging panels, lights and jewellery for sale or on commission.

Venue - Cowbridge Community College
