The Exhibition
A schedule of events, workshops and exhibitions took place at
Art Central and Venues in the Vale between Tuesday 24
July and Saturday 8 September 2012 as part of the Barry
Summer School revival.
Art Central gallery, in partnership with the National
Eisteddfod which took place in Llandow this
summer, brought an exciting retrospective exhibition
of art works from Barry Summer School together with community arts
workshops to the Vale. These events rekindled the amazing
happenings and off the wall arts experiences that took place during
the iconic years of the 1960s and 70s.
This famous, internationally renowned
summer art school held in Barry, saw pioneering approaches to art
education which attracted some of the most iconic and prestigious
artists from all over the world. They included Larry Adler, Kenneth
Martin, Terry Frost, Ann Sutton MBE, Tom Hudson, Peter Maxwell
Davies, Karl Jenkins, George Brecht, Robin Page, Dylan Thomas,
Harry Thubron, John Epstein, and one of today's
well-known Vale artists, Terry Setch, Academician.
This retrospective exhibition of art
works from the summer school was the first exhibition of its kind
to take place. In addition, art workshops and events were
held for you to enjoy and take part in.
These were led by some of the tutors from the
original summer school still working in their specialist field,
alongside practising
well-known artists of today.
