Llantwit Major Art & Craft Group

Tuesday 10th April - Saturday 5th May 2012.

An exciting range of new work is on show is by Llantwit Major Art & Craft Group. The artist’s skills range from felt and jewellery making to painting and other crafts. Formed over thirty years ago, the artists have made a major contribution to their local community.

 


 

Vale of Glamorgan Festival 1st - 11th May 2012

This years contemporary music festival features a number of well known world composers. There are many concerts being held in venues across the Vale of Glamorgan including the concert by composer Craig Vear and his work focussing on Captian Scott's explorations. 

 

This is an Open Work Ensemble performing the 'Three Last Letters' a new work by Craig Vear commemorating Robert Scott’s last days in Antarctica.  The work draws on field recordings from the region made by the composer during his stay with the British Antarctic Society along with extracts of the last letters sent home by Scott and his companions.

Jean Walcot  - Solo Exhibition

Tuesday 15th May - Saturday 9th June 2012.

Walcot’s paintings are greatly influenced by her travels between Wales and the United States of America.  The placement of body parts together with experimental use of colour, resulting in an illusion of depth is for me, for me, the greatest challenge

 

 


 

Cardiff and the Vale College  - Art & Design Exhibition

Completing the first year as Cardiff & the Vale College the art students final exhibition is showing a high quality collection of stunning, innovative creative work across the spectrum of art and design. Focussing on original and creative personal approaches the students evidence the challenging and exciting developments they have made during their courses.

Barry Summer School

Tuesday 17th July - Saturday 1st September 2012 

This famous summer art school held in Barry in the 1960’s & 70’s was internationally recognised.  This exhibition and community arts workshops in partnership with the National Eisteddfod in Llandow this summer, rekindles the exciting happenings and off the wall arts experiences that took place during those iconic years.

 


Community Centres

Arts and other activities in the Vale's Community Centres

Choice for all!

The Vale of Glamorgan Council owns 22 Community Centres. These are expertly managed on a daily basis by volunteers via a Community Association.  In the community centres you can find a number of arts activities and classes such as Dance classes for all Ballet, Salsa, Line, Sequence and Tea dancing, Tai Chi, Pilates, Ceramics, Flower arranging, Meditation and much more!

 

Each Community Centre has slightly different facilities but all have a main hall and kitchen. Some centres also have a smaller hall or committee room suitable for meetings.  They also provide opportunities for local people to participate in voluntary activities.

Leisure Centres - dance Fitness!!!

Whether you are a fitness fanatic, looking to burn a few calories, or want to dance the night away our Leisure Centres have some great activities.  The Vale has a fantastic fitness programme in its leisure centres that includes 'dance' activities too!

 

Dancing can get you fit whilst enjoying yourself and having fun! We have a great selection of classes.  Some to look out for are:-

 

Zumba the latest dance craze! A Latin-inspired dance fitness workout that includes a number of dance styles and aerobic elements, samba, salsa, mambo, belly dancing, hip hop and much more that gets you into an energetic party style work out!

Modern Jive draws from and number of well known dance forms like Rock 'n' Roll and Salsa. Once you know a few moves you can quickly begin to change your style and dance to a variety of music that can cater for every taste.

Pilates a calmer activity, yet an excellent workout! It emphasises the balanced bilateral development of the body through core abdominal strength, flexibility and muscular awareness to support efficient bodily movement.

THE COMMUNITY TOURING SCHEME FOR WALES night out

If you fancy a 'Night Out' at the Theatre in your Community!  and you have a community centre, village hall or similar community organisation based in Wales! and you would you like to put on performances by professional entertainers in your local area but, stop the headache of financial risk - then this is for you!!!!

The NIGHT OUT theatre scheme operated by Arts Council of Wales, Community Touring Unit, helps local organisations, bring in professional performances, to a community building at subsidised prices. 

The ‘Night Out’ theatre scheme is supported by the Vale of Glamorgan Council’s Arts Development Section who, help to promote the scheme and support productions taking place in your local community centre school or other local venue without financial risk!

 

So.....If you, your group or organisation want to organise a professional theatre show in your area, can market the production and organise the ticket sales then.....this is for YOU!
